Review from the “Laid Back” section of The Courier:
I fell in love with the No Refund Band’s first CD, so was excited when the follow-up, Current State of Blue, landed on my desk.
The album has the feel it was recorded in a smoky Texas roadhouse. The No Refund Band (NRB) was formed by Mike Crownover in 2007 with the intent of combining blues, soul, R&B, and rock into a fiery combination. Mission accomplished. Mike handles rhythm and lead guitar, and is joined by Ricky Jackson, (Lead
Singer/Lead Guitarist), Rik Robertson (Bass), Anthony Terry (Saxophone) and Jim Brady (Trumpet). The mix of the horns with blistering guitar and gritty heartfelt vocals is the key. “Blues is a confession of the soul it is almost like religion, so my hope is that the religion, which is the blues, never dies,” Mike
said. “The blues is a way to express the human condition. When you are down about something or sad, if feels good to tell it to others and get comfort that you aren’t the only one who feels that way.” Two things are for certain — electric blues don’t get any better this, and if you like that sort of music, you’ll never ask for a refund from a show or from this CD.

HIGHWAY 4: CLASSIC ROCK 21ST CENTURY MUSCLE
Highway 4 is a rock band out of Western Pennsylvania quickly rising to popularity. Eclectic personal favorites of the 70's music era have been the backbone to developing the unique but reminiscent classic sound.
Armed with the music from their full-length album, Up In Arms(6/21/14), and the music of their influences, Highway 4 possesses a professional quality and unmatchable energy. Their youthful, wild passion and raw talent are the unmistakeable components of every performance from this rising band.

"We're losing the human element in today's music. Perfection is impossible, and no one really wants that anyway." -Kelly Brown, Lead singer of Highway 4

In February 2012, they competed in The X Winter Rock Showcase & placed 2nd Overall out of over 110 Bands. Then, in early March, they took 1st Place in the Next Big Thing Tour at Mr. Small's Theatre out of over 40 bands. In July 2013, they won a Grassy Award from 97.7 The Rock Station for their song "One Of These Days." They've shared the stage with musicians including The Clarks, Zepparella, Truth & Salvage Co., Blackberry Smoke, Jack Russell's Great White and Hot Action Cop. Production of their demo, "Rock N Roll Lives" wrapped in late July 2012, and full-length album, Up In Arms, was released June 21, 2014.

Each of the members were raised on, and still thrive on, what can only be classified as "classic rock." Favorites include: Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, AC/DC and,(newer artists)The Foo Fighters.

Convoy is a Chicago based band that plays music described as “Swamp Rock”. The guys are notorious for hanging out with the crowd before and after shows.

The band was formed in the fall of 2009. Convoy plays southern metal/rock originals. Some of their influences are: Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, Pantera, and Black Label Society.

The band is comprised of versatile seasoned musicians. Brian Corbin is the singer, rhythm guitarist, and song writer of Convoy’s original music. Brian grew up in Kentucky and then moved to Chicago when he was a teen. His passion for southern rock is evident when he sings Convoy’s originals. He’s vocals are filled with raw emotion.

Mike Getz is the drummer. Mike is from the Chicago southside area. Mike has been playing drums for over 20 years. Mike is an energetic player and thrives on motivating the crowd. You’ll hear is screams echoing off of the crowd.

Dan Thompson (Big D) is the bassist and backup singer. Big D is also from the Chicago southside area. He has been a playing professional for over 25 years. Big D is a versatile bass player that can run the gamut from Blues to Metal, and industrial music. Big D holds down the bottom end of the group.

Johnny Daniel is the lead guitarist and backup vocals. Johnny grew up on the northside of Chicago. Johnny is a multi-talented musician who plays guitar, bass, keyboard, and sings. He is a walking jukebox. He has an impressive musical history. He is also the producer of Convoy's albums. He's leads are memorizing.

In July of 2010, Convoy released their first album, "River of Sorrow". During live performances, you will hear the crowd singing word by word of many of the tunes. The album brought them recognition throughout venues in the Midwest and southern US states. They also gained air play on radio stations such as: The Kat 105.5, Rock Gator Radio, Rock Chicago Show, and Rock Addict Radio.

Convoy began recording their second album, “Blue Collar America” in 2011. Convoy took a year recording this in their basement Rock Lounge. With Johnny turning the knobs and Brian turning in amazing tunes – the album was release in September 2012.

Everything is turned up a notch since the first album “River of Sorrow”. There’s even stronger vocals and bigger sound. Big D and Mike prove that groove is worth its weight in gold when laying down any kind of tune. The dual guitars of Brian and Johnny are never multi-tracked - just one solid take each - making this record sound live and vibrant. The guitar solos combine classic rock flash and melody making it easy to raise your fist every time.

Whether Convoy is playing a beer-soaked back room in Janesville, Wisconsin or opening for a national act - fans and newcomers echo the same thing again & again. Convoy has something special.

*All songs on the album River of Sorrow and Blue Collar America were written and produced by Convoy.

For Redefined Reflection, what started as a group of three friends dreaming about making music and touring nationally is now becoming a reality. Long time friends Lana Brooks (bass/vocals) and Colin Robinson (drums) had been in search of a lead vocalist and guitar player for a few years trying to start up a band.
The group added lead vocalist and guitarist, Brittney Waddle, in February of 2013 after seeing her Facebook post about guitars, amps, and writing original songs.

Hailing from Little Rock, AR, they are an eclectic mix of their own individual fusions of hard rock sounds with influences shining in their music from punk rock to modern and classic rock. Some influences include: Halestorm, Metallica, Joan Jett, Bullet For My Valentine, Sublime, Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Def Leppard, Pantera, Evanescence, Black Sabbath, Ramones, Slipknot, Chevelle, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana.

Now in Winter of 2014, they have recorded their debut 5 Track EP, "No Turning Back Now", at Red Room Studios with multi-platinum recording artist John LeCompt (Evanescence, Machina, We Are The Fallen). They have performed at many local venues in the Central Arkansas/Western Tennessee area - several in which they have shared the stage with national headling touring bands (Blameshift, The Midnight Ghost Train, Losing September, Girl On Fire). They have also just been announced as semi-finalists in the Arkansas Times Musicians Showcase and will perform at their semi-finalist round January 29th, 2015 at Stickyz Rock-N-Roll Chicken Shack in Little Rock, AR. The band is currently working on new material and planning a Summer 2015 tour schedule. They have also recently released a music video for their newest single, "Violent". Their EP is currently available for digital download on iTunes or Amazon. You can also stream it on Spotify, or purchase a physical copy from their official webstore.

Mark Johanson is a musician and recording engineer, based in Nashville, TN. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Mark spent the first ten years of his career gaining performance experience in numerous genres including Rock, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Country, and Folk music both on the guitar and behind the drum kit.

In 2008, Mark graduated with a degree in Music Technology and Jazz Guitar from Duquesne University, where he honed both his musical abilities and recording techniques. His time spent at Duquesne has allowed him to form his own sound as a modern guitarist, as well as develop the skills needed to excel in the recording industry.

In the fall of 2011, Mark relocated to Nashville, TN. After spending a year establishing himself in the local scene, he was selected to be the touring & recording lead guitarist for country artist Derryl Perry. In 2012, he got his first performance credit on a full-length album recorded on Music Row, Derryl Perry’s “Memoirs from the Road”. He continues to perform with many pop and country artists in Nashville, and continues to look for opportunities to further his career both onstage and in the studio, on both sides of the glass.

“Awash with wit, lust and distraction…one of the most inventive Blues recordings ever made by a British artist.” MOJO

“This album is a rare combination of cleverness and craft.” (Excellent) PENGUIN BOOK OF BLUES RECORDINGS

It has been said that had Siegal been around in the sixties he would today be accorded the same reverence as artists such as Van Morrison, Joe Cocker and Eric Clapton. Instead, he is a child of the seventies who dropped out of art college in the late eighties to go busking in Germany. From the streets of Berlin Siegal progressed to clubs around Nottingham, then to London and ultimately to major stages around Europe.

Two successive European tours (2003/4) opening for ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings brought him to the attention of a wider audience. This was followed by UK tours as a duo with Big Bill Morganfield (son of Muddy Waters, the man who Siegal calls The Blues God). During this time Siegal was also capturing the hearts of audiences in Holland, Belgium, Austria and Hungary. In 2005 he topped the Soul/Blues/Jazz charts in Holland and in 2006 he debuted in the USA, appearing at major clubs and the largest music festival on the West Coast.

“If my daddy were alive today he’d say: That’s my boy!” BIG BILL MORGANFIELD (son of Muddy Waters)

Born in the deep south (of England!) in 1971, Ian’s earliest musical memories are of the likes of Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis and Chuck Berry. This led him into a life-long passion for the Blues and all of its various branches, and most of all, the inimitable Muddy Waters.

“I cannot remember not knowing about Muddy Waters, even as a child,” says Ian. “His music and that of Howlin’ Wolf have been a huge influence on me.”

At 16 he began to roadie occasionally for his cousin’s band and one night, quite unexpectedly, he was asked to sing. The result was a blown-away audience and a delighted (and rather surprised) young vocal talent with a career ahead of him.

It was two years later that he picked up a guitar and taught himself to play. At 20 he dropped out of art college and travelled to Berlin, busking for a living. This is where he says his playing dramatically improved as, if he didn’t make money, he didn’t eat! By the time he returned to England he knew that a career in music was the only one for him.

A visit to Nottingham resulted in a five-year stay and Ian’s first band became one of the most popular on the local music scene. He quickly showed himself to be a gifted songwriter with a deep understanding of tradition, but with an eye on the future.

Moving to London to further his career was inevitable and Ian was soon an established part of the London Blues community. That’s where today’s Ian Siegal band was born.

Many gigs followed, along with a number of appearances with American artists. He has also sung with other bands, notably The Lee Sankey Group and can be heard on the album “Tell Me There’s a Sun”.

Appearances on larger festival stages followed – such as Edinburgh, Lugano, Peer, North Sea Jazz – establishing him as one of the most natural, exciting and vibrant talents on the scene today.

Each year the stages get bigger, but what sticks most in Ian’s mind is his guest appearance with 92 year old Pinetop Perkins and some of the other remaining members of Muddy Waters’ band. This was at London’s Jazz CafĂ© in 2005 to a packed house. Then at a festival in Norway, in a role reversal, these legends of post-war Blues spontaneously joined Ian on stage for what turned into a memorable hour long set.

  • DEAD KENNEDYS were one of the most popular and important American hardcore punk bands of the late ’70s/early ’80s. They formed in San Francisco in 1978 when EAST BAY RAY placed an ad in a music paper that vocalist JELLO BIAFRA responded to. They were soon joined by bassist KLAUS FLOURIDE, drummer TED and a second guitarist known to posterity simply as 6025. The latter departed in March 1979, while Ted was replaced at the very end of 1980 by D.H. PELIGRO.

After a brief rehearsal period, Dead Kennedys played their first gig at Mabuhay Gardens in July 1978. The “Fab Mab” was a Filipino restaurant in San Francisco's North Beach section that served as a home to punk bands for nearly ten years. It wasn't too long before the band gained a considerable following around San Francisco. Live, DKs were a combination of chaos and theatrics. Their sound could be described as a cross between the Sex Pistols and the Ventures. Read more.

A versatile band that can deliver everything from hard driving blues to melodic acoustic tunes that leave you wanting more.

Killer horns, smoking guitars, tight grooving bass and drums, gritty passionate vocals, lyrically strong, bluesy, funky and soulful. With a strong catalog of original songs, The No Refund band is just flat out rocking. Do you really need to read any more? Listen to The No Refund Band and you will get taste of contemporary blues mixed into a genre all their own. The No Refund Band was formed by Mike Crownover in 2007 whose passion for music was the catalyst for NRB’s continuing maturation as unit. While rolling over one of the bumps in the road in the bands evolution, Crownover met Ricky Jackson and Rik Robertson who he hired to fill in for a gig in Ft. Worth, Texas. It didn’t take long for the partnership to gel into something more permanent as the trio found common ground in their musical interests. Jackson would become the front man, with a soulful voice and penetrating guitar licks. Robertson, a studio musician provided the anchor to the band with his innovative bass lines. Both compliment the rock solid rhythms from Crownover. With a horn section featuring Anthony Terry and Jim Brady, the result is a versatile band that can deliver everything from hard driving blues to melodic acoustic tunes that leave you wanting more.

Monte Pittman is an American musician, songwriter and solo artist, based out of Los Angeles. He is mostly known as Madonna's guitar player and for playing with Prong. His 3rd solo album "The Power Of Three" is released by Metal Blade Records.

Born and raised in Longview, TX, Monte Pittman made the decision at 24 to move to L.os Angeles to pursue a career as a professional musician unfortunately having to leave his family, friends, and band Myra Mains behind. Upon arrival in LA, he made ends meet by working at a local music store. Realizing he was better at teaching than selling, he left to start providing guitar lessons.

As fate would have it, his third student would end up being British filmmaker Guy Ritchie, who had just received a guitar from his then girlfriend, Madonna. Soon after, Monte was introduced to the iconic performer, and became her guitar teacher as well. A month later, Monte was invited to join Madonna on stage at the David Letterman Show to promote her album, Music.

Monte has since played guitar on all of her live tours and albums starting with the 2001 Drowned World Tour to sharing writing credits on some of her songs.

Monte has also played guitar for the band Prong. He is credited with co-writing songs on “Scorpio Rising” and “Power of the Damager” to which he also added backing vocals and bass. He also played guitar on Prong’s live album “100% Live”.

In November 2009, Monte released his debut acoustic solo album, “The Deepest Dark”. Almost a year after its release, a special bonus version of “The Deepest Dark” was released and immediately reached the No. 1 spot on the Best-Selling Acoustic Albums list at CD-Baby.com. It was also No. 9 in the Top 10 Best-Selling CDs for the Fall of 2010.

In 2011, Monte launched a Kickstarter campaign for his second album, “Pain, Love & Destiny”. It raised a staggering $65,500, making him the top rock musician to raise the most money on the crowd-funding platform at that time. Monte met his initial goal of $5,000 in under 24 hours. It was released later that year and within its first week made it to No. 1 Rock Album, No. 1 Pop Album, and made it onto the Top 10 Albums chart on CD Baby. In addition, it cracked iTunes’ Top 200. Read more.

"Lou Lombardi's Strangelove plays in your face Great guitar driven, riff rock, just like they used to make!" ~ Rolling Stone

Strangelove is more than "a band". This is a show that includes live music, gorgeous dancers, and live interactive video. It has to be seen to really be believed. But they don't stop there! Strangelove works with a crack team of marketing professionals, and sponsors to ensure that EVERY show is a MASSIVE success. And if that isn't enough, they always manage to find a way to give something back buy raising money for charity at almost every show!

Armed and ready, PINK VELVET KRUSH are working on new material due to release later in 2015. The band recorded their debut E.P. titled, F.S.O.A., in November 2014. The E.P was produced by Vic Rivera (AdrianGale, Poley/Rivera) at Red V Studios in New York. Vic engineered, mixed and contributed backing vocals to the project. Mastering of F.S.O.A. was done by Bill Leverty (Firehouse) at Leverty Sound in Virginia.

With an impressive resume that includes; World tours, U.S. and European tours, The Vans Warped Tour, recording on Christina Aguilera’s remix of “Car Wash” from the movie “A Shark’s Tale”, opened or direct supported just about every national band there is, plus sold out venues across the nation, and a slew of tribute projects to boot, the members in PINK VELVET KRUSH exploded on to the scene in late 2014 and established the group as a rock and roll force to be reckoned with. PINK VELVET KRUSH quickly built a fan base just after announcing the project, then recorded and released two tracks (‘Ball and Chain’ and ‘One Shot’),  offering them for free to their fans.

Industry feedback of PINK VELVET KRUSH has been so overwhelming that the band was able to complete a short run of tour dates from August to November in 2014; including festival performances.

In December, PVK had some downtime and made a few internal changes in preparation for 2015 and the new material will prove to be a departure from what they have already done and take the band in a new direction.

PINK VELVET KRUSH includes drummer Joe Larsen, guitarists Greg Polcari and Sean Quidgeon, vocalist Doug ‘Savage’ Ramey, and bassist Shane West.
