Nancy Wilson: Rock Goddess Reinvents Herself and Rock and Roll For A New Generation

Nancy Wilson is celebrated as one of the seminal musicians in the history of Rock n' Roll. A guitar virtuoso from the age of 10, Nancy, and her sister Ann, led the multi-platinum rock group, Heart. Together they have gone on to sell 35 million records. Nancy is revered as an ingenious guitar player and a gifted vocalist. As a songwriter, Nancy has co-written a collection of indelible songs that have earned their way into the classic rock canon including, "Magic Man," "Crazy on You," "Barracuda," and "Straight On."

During an era when females in rock n' roll were scarce, Nancy helped carve out a place for women to front a band and dominate a rock stage. Her icon status was cemented when Heart was inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. That same year, she and her sister received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2013, the Wilson sisters celebrated another career milestone when they performed Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" at the Kennedy Center Honors. Their note-perfect performance was met with rowdy cheers and a standing ovation in the staid hall and brought members of Led Zeppelin to tears.

Nancy has also built a successful career as a film composer. Her composing credits include scores for the following films:

-2005 Elizabethtown
-2001 Vanilla Sky
-2000 Almost Famous
-1995 Jerry Maguire (main theme)
-1989 Say Anything...

Nancy’s film nominations include:

-2006: Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards (Critics Choice Award – Best Composer) for Elizabethtown

-2002: Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA (Saturn Award – Best Music) for Vanilla Sky

-2001: Phoenix Film Critics Society Awards (PFCS Award – Best Original Score) for Almost Famous

-2001: BAFTA (Anthony Asquith Award for Film Music) for Almost Famous

-2000: Las Vegas Film Critics Society Awards (Sierra Award – Best Score) for Almost Famous

As a longtime film buff, Nancy has an encyclopedic knowledge of film. She has years of experience working as part of filmmaking teams, helping to craft scenes that support the emotional tone of the film and advance the story. An instinctive musician, she applies her touch to enhance an intimate, human moment or to bring excitement to a party scene.

Nancy's onstage experience in Heart has taught her how to create connections with her audience in a concert. She brings this skill to her composing work, where she delivers unforgettable melodic themes, aimed at deepening her relationship with a viewing audience.

Nancy is currently branching out into co-creating and scoring new television series alongside her regular touring schedule with Heart.

Celebrating The Women Of Horror: Who Are The Greatest Scream Queens of All Time?

The Loudini Hard Rock and Metal Circus celebrates it's FOURTH Halloween Spooktacular by celebrating the women of horror! Join Lou and Keith as they pose the question: "Just who are the greatest, sexiest, and hottest scream queens of all time?"  Featured Loudini Artists:    Cellar Darling    East Of Eden    Tax The Heat

Cellar Darling
Cellar Darling formed in the summer of 2016 out of the split of Switzerland’s most successful metal act to date, the chart-topping Eluveitie. The trio consisting of Anna Murphy (vocals, hurdy-gurdy), Merlin Sutter (drums) and Ivo Henzi (guitars & bass) therefore already looks back on a decade of touring the world, in 45+ countries on 6 continents. The winners of the 2014 Swiss Music Award as ‘best live act’ have experienced much together, forming a bond that can overcome any adversity.

After the split with their former band in June 2016, Anna, Ivo and Merlin quickly realised their musical journey was far from over and instantly began working on their own songs. What quickly developed was a unique and fresh combination of grand and heavy riffs, powerful drumming and a unique voice, with the signature folky, earthy tones of the hurdy gurdy, confidently fusing heavy alternative rock with strong fokly influences and poetic lyrical tales, creating what you may very well call a New Wave Of Folk Rock.

After a summer of intense songwriting sessions, Cellar Darling self-released their first single, 'Challenge' along with a bonus track ‘Fire, Wind & Earth’, in September 2016, to overwhelmingly positive reactions from around the world. Signing to Nuclear Blast Records in January 2017 was swiftly followed by 3 subsequent single releases, all met with a staggering support from the ever growing fanbase. Cellar Darling’s debut album ‘This Is The Sound’ was released on June 30th 2017.

Lyrically, Cellar Darling are storytellers. They want to carry you away into their world of music, awaking the spirit of the stories our parents told us before going to sleep, painting pictures with melodies, metaphors and poetry. Melodize the adventures of the human spirit, with all its mysteries and emotions.

The upcoming album promises to awaken your imagination and stretch your musical tastes.

The Fine Art of Combining Catchy Melodies to Create a Rich Tapestry with Beto Hale

Orbs of light is a collection of 10 original songs, all written, performed, and co-produced by Beto Hale. It was recorded at Los Olivos Recording Studios, Beto's new, 2000-sq. ft., state of the art facility in LA.

The songs range in influence from progressive-rock, to Beatles, Bob Dylan, 80's Pop and Post Punk.
The lyrics have a positive message meant to counter the current negative atmosphere pervading the news.

On 90% of the album, Beto played drums, percussion, bass, electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, keyboards, piano, and sang lead and backing vocals.

The album is being submitted for Grammy consideration for Best Alternative Album, bezt Rock Performance ("The Only One"), and best Rock Song ("Far Away").
[Those singles can be focused on for pitching].

Beto Hale was born in Mexico City. He started playing “drums” (meaning whatever was within his reach and he could hit with whatever he could grab,) around the time he could talk. He got his first drum set when he was eight. He taught himself to play listening to Beatles albums he found in the shelves of his home. When he was around 11, he joined a local band, which played a few cool gigs, including at the U.S. Ambassador's residence. He also dabbled in guitar, an instrument he later became quite good at.

During his middle and high school years at E.S.P.C.M. (now Colegio Ciudad de México), Beto played with a band who called themselves El Gru-Po (you figure it out), and several other outfits.

Upon graduation, Beto was recruited by Jorge Ceja to tour as a keyboardist, obviously with the enormously popular teen-pop singing group Timbiriche. Beto was to replace Aureo Baqueiro, now a famous producer of Latin Pop albums, who was on his way to Berklee College of Music.
A product of the geniuses at Televisa, Timbiriche was one more incredibly successful product manufactured by a company where stars are streamlined with more precision than bagels at a bakery in Brooklyn.
Beto toured all over Mexico with the group, and after a short but intense stint, he decided to get serious about music, and enrolled at the small, exclusive, and prestigious C.IE.M. music school in San Jerónimo, one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Mexico City. There, under the direction of María Antonieta Lozano, he studied composition, harmony, ear training, piano, guitar, drums, voice, history of western music, and many other subjects, including, “How to Survive as an Avant-garde Composer and Burger Flipper, 101”. After three and a half years of intense study (and having gone through the heartbreaking loss of his dear father to Lou Gherig's disease), Beto felt ready to, at last, fulfill one of his lifelong dreams: attending Berklee as well, in Boston, MA, a place, physically, culturally and weather-ly (is that a word?) that could not be further from Mexico City.
So, he sent in his application and recorded a demo using the latest technology (yes, a Tascam Porta-One MINISTUDIO, of course!!) and sent it to Berklee, in the hopes of getting a scholarship, Which he did.
On precisely August 26th, 1992, Beto left his adored country of birth and arrived, full of hopes and illusions, to Boston, MA. After a nice and long Autumn season that lasted exactly four and a half days, Beto found himself freezing his nuts off, and quickly learned how to protect himself from the cold: stay the fuck inside, at all times! This proved to be a great tool for doing what you must at Berklee: practice, practice, practice, practice -eat, sleep- practice, practice, practice, and, yes, practice!
At Berklee, overwhelmed by the choices available, Beto decided to double-major in Songwriting and Performance (drum set). The performance and recording opportunities at Berklee were incredible. Beto got to share the stage with some of today's most outstanding musicians, many of which are close friends to this day; among them, Antonio Sánchez (drummer for Pat Metheny, and the Grammy winning composer for the film Birdman), Cheche Alara (currently on tour with Barbra Streisand), and Alex Mercado (outstanding Mexican jazz pianist), to name just a handful.
The experience opened Beto's mind, ears and heart, and he will always remember the Berklee years as some of the best of his life. But, when he graduated, he could not wait to get out of “Beantown”. So, after four years of endless nights (literally: the sun goes down at 3 PM), mountains of snow, and angry and drunken Red Sox fans, the next logical step was to move to the relaxed, low-key, stress-free, friendly, warm and sunny, creative haven of New York City!
While looking for opportunities at the Berklee Career Center, Beto found an internship at a small recording studio in the heart of Manhattan: KMA (you figure it out). Michael Case Kissel (R.I.P.) received Beto with open arms and while there, Beto recorded a whole host of interesting people, including Laura Branigan (of “Gloria” fame) and many others. Through KMA, he met members of the band “The Cogs” a pop/punk band he soon joined. He played innumerable gigs with the band in the Tri-State area, and also recorded a full length album, Viva! with them at the famed Avatar Studios.
As exciting and inviting as it was, New York City proved to be a great place to starve too –what with 10 dollar an hour jobs and $1.50-a-pop subway rides– so, after receiving a call to join the editorial offices of Músico Pro magazine in Boulder, Colorado, Beto accepted to interview for the job and was hired, moving to Colorado to start all over again.
At Músico Pro, Beto quickly moved up the corporate ladder, becoming Editor-in-Chief, a position he held for six years. During his tenure, he interviewed some of his musical heroes, such as Stewart Copeland, Andy Summers, and the Holy Trinity...Not THAT one, THIS one!
Some other artists Beto interviewed include Alejandro Sanz, Poncho Sánchez, Chick Corea, Pat Martino, El Tri, Julieta Venegas, Café Tacuba, and Tony Levin.
Beto also got to review tons of gear, from microphones, guitars and drum sets, to plug-ins, synths and sound modules. Sometimes the editorial staff got a little behind in reviewing the enormous amount of gear they received.
Thanks to his reputation as a bilingual music instrument and technology “expert”, companies in the industry started hiring Beto to translate users manuals, websites and promotional material from English to Spanish, which led to the founding of Let's Mexam Music, Inc. in 1999. The company's client roster includes Peavey, Korg, Latin Percussion and PreSonus, to name just a few.
During his nine years in Colorado, Beto played with several bands, from “jam” style outfits, to wedding bands to experimental rock groups. He also recorded his first two full-length solo albums, Sube and American Mythology. Both bilingual CDs received rave reviews from English and Spanish language publications. Beto played numerous gigs promoting these albums, both in Mexico and the US.
During his last year at Músico Pro, Beto enrolled in the prestigious Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver to pursue a Masters in Music, which he obtained in 2006. At DU, Beto composed music for full symphony orchestra, big band and small jazz ensembles.
In 2007, Beto moved to Los Angeles, the city he still calls home. There, he has collaborated with some outstanding musicians and producers, including Pablo Suñé, Pablo Munguía, Alexis Sklarevski, and others. He has also studied with a who's who of LA teachers, such as vocalist Rosemary Butler, drummer Denny Seiwell, and composer /arranger/bandleader Brent Fischer.
In 2012, Beto released Rebirth, a 10-song collection which features Tony Levin playing bass on all songs. The album includes “Fire Away” and “Come As You Are”, two singles that hovered in the top 40 for several weeks in college and commercial stations across the US. It was co-produced by Beto and CJ Boggs, a longtime collaborator and friend from the Colorado days. The album also features Marc Mann on guitar.
Beto promoted the album performing several gigs in Mexico City with his band: David García on bass, and Felipe Souza Sr. and Jr. on guitars. Another incarnation featured Marcelo Berestovoy on guitar. The video section of this website contains several clips of those shows.
In 2016 Beto completed the construction of a gorgeous state-of-the-art facility, Los Olivos Recording Studios. The facility, designed and built by Kaufman and Associates, is a dream come true. This is where Beto will record all his new music, collaborating with LA's -and the world's- top songwriting, performing, and producing talent. The studio will also cater to an exclusive clientele in the music, film, TV and Web-streaming industries.

The Best Drum Intros of ALL TIME!

This week on The Loudini Hard Rock and Metal Circus Lou and Keith show their love for the people who sit on the riser behind the band and drive it hard. In the history of rock there are some iconic drum intros that perfectly set up the feel and groove for the rest of the song. What are the top 10 Drum intros of all time?  Featured Loudini Artists:    PRYM  Veil of Maya   Sons of Apollo

PRYM
PRYM debuted their first single “Lights” on March 24, setting the scene for the band's first EP and nationwide tour for Summer 2017. The latest from former solo artist Corrin Campbell, the group takes the artist’s previous rock background and melds captivating synths with crunchy guitars and powerful vocals.
Corrin Campbell, formerly an artist sponsored by the U.S. Army, has been featured at a range of events, from Lilith Fair 2010 to Vans Warped Tour 2014 and 2015. Her work with the Army expanded to rock group Dash|Ten for Warped Tour 2016 and the group has toured across the United States. “My time with the Army was incredible, but came with some limitations,” says Campbell. “Since my time with the Army just came to close, I wanted a chance to make some relevant and catchy rock music - no holds barred.”

The group is set to release a three-song EP entitled “At First Light" in August ahead of a full-length album in early 2018. “We really want to give the fans a chance to hear what the new project sounds like before heading out on the road and showing them the whole album, and I think they’re going to love it!”

Veil of Maya
The Chicago based VEIL OF MAYA have definitely taken the hard road to success grinding it out on the road through countless tours over the years, but now that backbreaking schedule is paying off tenfold. This quartet are one of the few very bands that can authentically mix elements of progressive metal, melodic death metal, thrash and hardcore brutality together effectively, all while keeping the listener constantly interested with baited breath wondering just what is coming next. This is exactly why they will have a career for years to come.

With their third full-length album, Eclipse, they continued to blend Meshuggah-esque riffs, shreddy solos and haunting melodies into a compelling package that garnered high acclaim from fans and media alike. With his overflowing riff bank in hand, the group have continued to churn out new material that has ultimately resulted in the new tracks that will be featured on a much anticipated new full length album (release TBA 2014) . The results are even more jagged and heterogenous with dizzying guitar savagery, jazz chords and fragmented leads congealing in a swarm of blast beats.
VEIL OF MAYA are firing on all cylinders and remain one of the top artists within the genre never adhering to any preconceived ideals further pushing the envelope with each new track they create.

Sons of Apollo
APOLLO: The ancient Greek and Roman God of music and poetry.
SONS OF APOLLO: The new supergroup featuring members of Dream Theater, Mr. Big, Guns ‘N Roses, and Journey.

For the past few months, rumors have been circulating about a new secret project including former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian. Now, the time has come to make the grand and highly anticipated introduction to their new band, SONS OF APOLLO.

Reuniting to form SONS OF APOLLO, Portnoy and Sherinian have joined forces with Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses), Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force). Their debut album, PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY, will be released October 20 on InsideOutMusic/Sony Music.

PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY was produced by the dynamic production duo of Portnoy and Sherinian, also affectionately known as “The Del Fuvio Brothers,” which is the nickname given to them over 20 years ago during their time together in Dream Theater.

SONS OF APOLLO got together very organically, as Portnoy explains: “Derek and I reunited shortly after I left Dream Theater in 2010 and we put together an all-instrumental touring band with he and I, Billy Sheehan, and Tony MacAlpine. That was my first time working with Derek since the ‘90s when he was in Dream Theater and it was just great to be working with him again. Ever since that tour, which was really just a one-off live thing, he has been nudging me to start a real, original, full-time band. The timing just had never been right, because I had too many other things on my plate. Long story short, the time was finally right to take the bait and put together a band.”

“Mike and I work at a relentless pace in the studio,” continues Sherinian. “The music is modern, but we have an old school soul. What is unique about SONS OF APOLLO is that we have true rock n’ roll swagger along with the virtuosity– a lethal combination!”

But what to call the next great supergroup? “Derek was mainly the one behind the name,” says Portnoy. “I have a list that I keep on my phone of about a hundred different band names, which I constantly have to refer to every time I have a new band every year (laughs). So, I pulled up the list and Apollo was one of the names on the list. It was a word that both of us really liked. We started fiddling with different variations of the word. One of the original band names we were working with was Apollo Creed, the character from the ‘Rocky’ movies, but after lots of different discussions on different variations, Derek suggested SONS OF APOLLO and it seemed to stick. Apollo is the God of Music so with that in mind it seemed like a fitting name.”

Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian and Billy Sheehan previously toured together in 2012 and 2013 as PSMS (along with guitarist Tony MacAlpine), playing all instrumental versions from each of their previously recorded music. SONS OF APOLLO is the next logical progression by adding a vocalist and creating all-original material. The band incorporates the progressive style and individual technical prowess that Portnoy & Sherinian shared together in Dream Theater combined with the swagger and groove of Van Halen, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.

“I have known Mike and Derek for a long time, so when they came to me with Sons of Apollo, I jumped on this straight away,” says Thomas Waber, Label Manager/A&R International of InsideOutMusic. “However, the album they ended up recording exceeded my already high expectations by a long mile! We couldn’t be happier about it!”

SONS OF APOLLO will hit the road in 2018 for their first worldwide tour.

“This is a real band,” Portnoy declares. “This is going to pick up for me and Billy where The Winery Dogs left off, in terms of this being the next logical full-time thing for us. I’m not saying The Winery Dogs have broken up, because we haven’t, we’re just on a break. SONS OF APOLLO is absolutely going to be a full-time band and we plan on touring all over the world all throughout 2018 and, honestly, it is the priority for all five of us.”

Sherinian agrees, “We will go on a worldwide crusade in 2018 to bring SONS OF APOLLO to as many people as possible. Apollo was the God of Music, and we are his mighty offspring!”

Henry Chadwick on working with Beck producer Robert Schnapf

Henry Chadwick is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Amigos Amigos On Using Friendship To Create Music Business Success

FROM THE ARID DESERTS OF THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST...A LEGEND WAS BORN. A GROUP OF DRIFTERS, TRYING TO FIND THEIR WAY BACK HOME TO THE GREAT (AND GREASY) STATE OF NEW JERSEY, STRUGGLED TO NAVIGATE THE SEEMINGLY BARREN WASTELAND. THE GROUP CONSISTED OF A STRONGMAN, A DOCTOR, TWO SCHOLARS, A YOGI, AND A PAINFULLY AVERAGE WHITE MALE...ALL EQUALLY OPPRESSED BY THE CLIMATE.

AFTER DAYS OF WANDERING, FINDING SUSTENANCE ONLY FROM CACTUS JUICE AND THE CONSUMPTION OF SMALL DESERT REPTILES, THE GROUP DISCOVERED A GIANT TEMPLE, WORN DOWN BY THE WHIPPING SANDS OF TIME. DESPERATELY SEEKING REFUGE, THEY ENTERED THE TEMPLE AND WERE MET WITH AN EERIE SENSE OF CALM. THE GIANT STRUCTURE WAS VOID OF ANY OTHER PRESENCE...OR SO THEY THOUGHT. THE WALLS WERE DECORATED WITH ANCIENT, FACIAL SHAPES OF A CIVILIZATION LONG PASSED. THE TROUPE CONTINUED TO EXPLORE, AS THEY DISAPPEARED DEEP INTO THE CONFINES OF THE TEMPLE.

A FAINT MELODY WAS PICKED UP BY THE KEEN EARS OF THE STRONGMAN. THE WEARY TRAVELERS FOLLOWED THE SOUND UNTIL THAT ARRIVED AT THE SOURCE; A ROOM WITH A CLOSED DOOR, THE SOUND OF THE MELODY CREEPING THROUGH THE CRACKS OF THE DOOR. ON THE SURFACE OF THE DOOR, ANOTHER INTERESTING SHAPE WAS DISPLAYED. A CACTUS DONNING A MUSTACHE, WEARING A SOMBRERO. STRANGE. THEY ENTERED THE ROOM TO FIND A LITTLE MUSIC BOX PLAYING ON THE FLOOR. THEY LISTENED INTENTLY, AS THE MELODY WAS BIZARRE AND UNLIKE ANYTHING ANY OF THEM COULD RECALL HEARING BEFORE. AT THE END OF THE TUNE, THE MUSIC BOX SIMPLY RESET ITSELF AND BEGAN TO PLAY THE MELODY AGAIN, AS THE MUSIC BOX OPENED AND BLINDED THE GROUP WITH A BRILLIANT, WHITE LIGHT.

THE GROUP AWAKENED, BACK IN NEW JERSEY, WITH NO RECOLLECTION OF HOW THEY TRAVELED HOME. THEY COULD ALSO INEXPLICABLY PLAY MUSIC AS A BAND. THEIR SOUND WAS A BLEND OF DYNAMIC ROCK MUSIC WITH POWERFUL BRASS MELODIES. THEY CALLED IT "POWER MARIACHI." THIS NEWLY ACQUIRED GIFT ALLOWED THE NEWLY FORMED BAND TO DEVELOP A DEEP FRIENDSHIP THROUGH THE ART OF MUSIC. TO PAY HOMAGE TO THEIR EXPERIENCE IN THE DESERT, THE BAND CHOSE THE NAME "AMIGOS, AMIGOS!" IN AN EFFORT TO INSPIRE OTHERS TO BOND WITH EACH OTHER BY MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER.

.....OR THEY ARE JUST A PROG-ROCK BAND FROM NORTH JERSEY WHO LOVE PLAYING MUSIC TOGETHER AND HAVING FUN. WHATEVER PUTS SOUR CREAM ON YOUR TACO!

Sarah Ragsdale on Whimsical Journeys and Fantastical Exaggerations

Singer, songwriter, and pianist Sarah Ragsdale has captured her adventurous "Piano Woman" experiences into a whimsical journey of storytelling through pop, jazz, and folk influences, culminating into her own unique "Ragstime" style. Her songs start with real life events and morph into enchanting rhymes using colorful images and metaphors. Sarah's diverse artistic background, from Appalachia to West Africa, has provided a large palate to describe very personal and emotional accounts for herself and others. She has toured and performed live in America, Europe, Asia, and Africa making appearances on major international television networks including BBC World, Univision, France24, and Radio France Internationale.
Album “Whimsical Romance”:

Life is like one big romance. This collection of songs is about that romantic story called life, and the ups and downs that come along with it. Based on true stories, mixed with some fantastical exaggerations, this is a fun and playful album of the vast array of emotions that come along with relationships. Written at various stages throughout her life, these are raw stories that have been tried and tested at the piano, even with audience involvement – some relying on percussive snapping and clapping. Feelings range from happiness and pure bliss like in the song “This Kiss”, to a character of craziness and denial like “Next Time”, to more intimate reflections like in “Paranoia”, while others emit strength and moving on. Raw and rustic, catchy and melodic, this album has hints of blues, jazz, and even ragtime.

The Top 10 Raunchy Comedies of All Time

Admit it... you love a good raunchy comedy... Who doesn't? What are the best raunchy comedies of all time? That's the topic for this week's Loudini Hard Rock and Metal Circus. Chime in and we'll mention you on the air. Let's keep it RAUNCHY! Featured Loudini Artists:   Then Comes Silence  Sky Valley Mistress  Beast in Black

Then Comes Silence
Pretty much what four musicians can do with guitars making horror music.

A fascination of death, doom, spiritualism and corruption has gathered the
members of THEN COMES SILENCE, together with a predisposition towards
noiserock, goth, shoegaze and psychedelia. The band brings darkness and
romantic death via music and sounds, performed on guitars at deafening
volume. Cathartic, distorted and effect-laden.
This fall will see the release of their self-titled debut and the unleash of dark
forces.
As humans, we have been carrying the culture of fear and horror since ancient
times. In folklore and stories. A trip through desolated grounds or a night in the
woods can easily bring those ancient premonitions back to life. Our comfortable
modern lifestyle makes us isolated and afraid of death. It makes us avoid the
things that remind us of it. A fear of the unknown. What we cannot see nor
understand.

Influences
Killing Joke, Wendy Carlos, Bowie, Siglo XX, Joy Division, Black Sabbath, Mort Garson, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Dead Kennedys, The Sisters of Mercy, Beethoven, Sonic Youth, A Place to Bury Strangers, Freddie Wadling etc etc etc and many more...

Beast in Black
A five-piece Helsinki based heavy metal band BEAST IN BLACK was founded by Anton Kabanen soon after he had parted ways with BATTLE BEAST in 2015. The international line-up consists of Yannis Papadopoulos (voc), Mate Molnar (bass), Sami Hänninen (drs), Kasperi Heikkinen (gtr) and Anton Kabanen (gtr, voc).

By the end of 2015 the band had already played their first gig as an opener for NIGHTWISH without even having their debut album out yet. The making of the album was in progress and it was completed in the summer of 2017.

A record deal was made with NUCLEAR BLAST almost immediately after the completion of the album. The debut album titled "BERSERKER" is set to be released in November 2017 and it continues in the style of Anton's previously composed works which include the first three Battle Beast albums.

And let it be mentioned that one of the essential themes on this debut is a Japanese manga and anime "BERSERK".

The album cover art deserves a special mention as well, since it marks the return of the collaboration between Anton and Roman Ismailov who was the original illustrator and graphic artist for Battle Beast.

The time is drawing near. The newborn Beast is back with a vengeance, rising from the abyss with fortitude to spew its unrivaled heavy metal fury all over the world!

The Beast is back, the Beast In Black!

Ram Ramakar on Cosmic Encounters

My latest album release is titled "HUMMINGBIRD". The easiest free access to iy is at Spotify, just do a search there - ram ramakar HUMMINGBIRD - most of my releases are at that site.

Its a rock album, there are notes and reviews at:

 http://www.gmoozle.wordpress.com

There's a great review here by a writer based in New York City - Kabir Seghal. He's also a Grammy winning producer.

I generally aim at getting at least one album out every year. This one has a combination of new songs and songs I've been carrying around in my head for a long time. They just had to be recorded and released.

I've been branching out into various forms of rock music, even a lullaby ["Peter Pan & Tinkerbell"]. I've been touching on soul and jazz. The title song is an acoustic guitar, bass, vocal and crackling open-fire arrangement, very simple.

I'm currently working on a follow-up.

I've been into music from early childhood. I took a diversion at one point into the visual arts, painting, sculpture. film etc. To me recording is a lot like painting. sculpture and film and other art-forms, in that wonderful things happen when you get in the flow of creating. One thing I've learned is that rock-music is art.
I found my way back to music through an art-work called "Life-Piece". Its all chronicled in an eBook titled "A Taste Of Freedom"

John Juan: Surfing, Songwriting, and Never Sleeping

John Juan was born John Lawrence Mattson in Hong Kong, lived in Japan and
Baltimore as a child, finally settling in San Diego, CA. He is a multi-
instrumentalist with a BA in English Literature from UCLA. Having modest
success as an HVAC contractor, he still feels as if pushing against the world. He
decides to redirect and become a more active instrument of whats around him.
Some how he finds John Juan in the tide and begins to drift with him. Or does
John Juan find John him?
Online description of the album, draft ( & other possible stuff for bio):
Pounding acoustics support narrative driven songs. Dobro, ukulele, trumpet, piano
and banjolele, help blend a genre mixing sound.
Triggered by lack of sleep, the narrator finds John Juan. Old instruments found
along the way channel a brief recollection of a vast eternity.

John Juan and Jean Claude are brothers. Jean Claude sings songs live too, and will
have some excellent numbers on our next records. John Juan’s real name is John
Mattson and Jean Claude’s real name is Jesse Mardian. They are actually brothers
in-law. Being the core of the band, they will often play shows just as a 2-piece.
Angel Roche-drums/ percussion (Grammy winner with Ziggy Marley on a live
record) and Erik Klerk-bass (Magic Band, featuring OG members of Captain
Beefheart) are our principle rhythm section. Angel also produced the record, along
with his wife Zoe Poledouris.
Keyboardist are in and out the picture live.

Who are the Best Lyricists in Metal?

Nature counts the black widow spider amongst its most fascinating and dangerous anomalies. The female arachnid often devours its mate after copulation. It's both a delicate and dangerous predator. In This Moment isn't all that different from this enigmatic beast. Led by frontwoman Maria Brink, the Los Angeles hard rock outfit strikes with a seductive metallic bite on their aptly titled fifth full-length album, Black Widow.
"Black Widow is a metaphor for this innocent young girl who gets infected with life, traumas, experiences, and the balance of light and darkness," explains Maria. "She becomes this poised and powerful creature. That's the album."
"We went into this with the title Black Widow," says lead guitarist Chris Howorth. "It fits the image of Maria as this powerful heroine. If you think of the boys in the audience watching our stage show, she's like the black widow pulling them all in."
The record, the first for the band on Atlantic Records, picks up where the group's 2012 breakthrough, Blood, left off. That album saw In This Moment debut at #15 on the Billboard Top 200, their highest chart position to date, and eventually sold over 250,000 units in the U.S. alone. It also spawned the single "Blood," which rose to #9 on the Mainstream Rock and Active Rock Songs charts. A sold out headline tour, HELLPOP, followed, as well as appearances at the Uproar Festival and Rock On The Range, and jaunts with Shinedown and Papa Roach. After the whirlwind of Blood subsided, Maria and Chris retreated to Las Vegas in February 2014 to begin working on what would become Black Widow with longtime producer Kevin Churko [Ozzy Osbourne, Five Finger Death Punch].
While writing and recording in the studio, Maria and Chris both tapped into the fearless ethos that characterized Blood, inciting their next creative evolution in the process.
"It's almost like I was growing up in this industry," Maria admits. "I swear I went from a girl to a woman. I used to hold myself back, and I had all of these fears. I woke up one day and realized it doesn't matter what anybody thinks. We have to do what we want to do. When I did that, I was freed. We could do this big grandiose show, and we could make the music we wanted. It began with Blood. That's where we started to come alive and figure out who we really are. We let go of any walls and limitations. Black Widow is us doing what's in our hearts."
"Black Widow is a progression from the last record," Chris affirms. "That opened up the floodgates for us. There were no boundaries. We could just go for it. We weren't afraid of any ideas. We didn't worry about anyone's opinion. We approached the music with that attitude."
Their boundless approach shines through in album opener "Sex Metal Barbie." Tempering an industrial crunch and sexually charged synths with gnashing riffs and hauntingly hypnotic vocal delivery, the track instantly transfixes, calling out haters who hide behind keyboards.
"People can be so cruel on the Internet," she sighs. "I actually don't read anything negative about me or the band anymore. I don't let myself get sucked into that. In the end, music comes down to someone's personal perception of what they love. It's not meant for everyone. I wanted to empower myself with that online negativity somehow. I literally went on these sites and read mean things and rumors about me. I wrote them down and transformed them into lyrics for the song. I turned it all around."
"That was the second song we did," the guitarist recalls. "It came from Maria saying, 'What about building a metal song around a cool hip-hop beat?' Everything was constructed piece by piece, and it was very experimental. Once we finished the song, we felt like we had something special. It was a catalyst for more music."
Meanwhile, "Sick Like Me" begins with an eerie buzz before snapping into muscular distortion and a propulsive guitar gallop. Everything explodes on an anthemic sing-a-long hook.
"It's about when somebody loves you for everything you are," she states. "They love you even for what you consider flaws. It's that vision of people who are super eccentric and twisted, but they're perfect like that because that's who they are. They're meant to be."
Then there's "Big Bad Wolf," which bares its teeth with a bludgeoning riff, keyboard swell, and piercing scream. "It was destined to be a faster song," adds Chris. "Maria did this choppy, cool Mike Patton-style verse. It became really intense."
Maria smiles, "I like to say I have the Big Bad Wolf in me and this Little Piggy in me. In my perception, the Big Bad Wolf is the enlightened and loving part of myself, whereas the Little Piggy is the dark side. I have a natural pull towards darker things. It's the internal struggle of those two animals in me, but I realize both are very necessary for all of us. I need to embrace that fire, be wild and primal. That's important too."
In This Moment also teamed up with Shinedown's Brent Smith for the stunning duet "Sexual Hallucination." It’s an elegant electronic-infused piece that drips sexuality and darkness.
"We love Brent and Shinedown," Chris continues. "We didn't think we'd have a shot at getting him, but he instantly said yes. The song is a little different for him, and he jumped at the chance to do it."
One of the album's most powerful moments comes on the piano-driven rumination "The Fighter." Contrasted with the resounding stark keys, Maria's voice proves especially potent. She goes on, "It's embracing and accepting who I am. I used to think something was wrong with me. I've come to learn I'm perfect in how fucked up I am. I wouldn't have these songs to sing or be able to connect with people without that."
Ultimately, that connection with fans is what drives the band. "Their loyalty is incredible," declares Maria. "It comes down to us doing this for ourselves and our fans. We owe it all to them, and we're excited for everybody to experience this. This is who we are, and it's for them."

Diamante
Diamonds are like artists;
no two should be alike.

Enter Diamante. With iridescent sapphire hair, a show-stopping voice, runway-ready fashion swagger, and an empowering message, the Boston-raised and Los Angeles-based Mexican-Italian-American sonic heroine brings a new (and blue) fire to rock and alternative music. Serendipitously, her name might as well have pre-destined a future in the spotlight…
“In Spanish, Diamante means ‘Diamond,’ and my middle name Azzura means ‘Blue’ in Italian,” she explains. “If I was a color, I would be blue. I love it, because it’s bold, ethereal, and everything I am.”
Born to an Italian dad and Mexican mom in a Boston suburb, she always stood out. Interchangeably speaking three languages—Italian, Spanish, and English—she found inspiration in words, penning poetry and short stories at a young age inspired by J.K. Rowling and Stephen King. Drawn to musical theater, the budding performer starred in school productions of The Little Mermaid, Grease, and more before relocating to L.A. with her family at 13. Already a fan of Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne, her discovery of rock music via a School of Rock summer program ignited a dormant passion.
“Being on stage and singing rock was the way I broke out of my shell and was able to realize who I am and the full potential I have,” she admits. “From there, I really connected to the women of the eighties like Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, and Debbie Harry. I thought they were so cool, iconic, and badass. That’s how I wanted to be.”
Diamante spent the next few years quietly cutting her teeth at local gigs on the Sunset Strip as a singular musical vision came into focus. A disciple of both P!nk and Guns N’ Roses who doesn’t fall into rockstar excess or even sport tattoos, she devoted every waking minute to honing a signature “classic rock sound with a modern alternative edge.” This unique and undeniable approach caught the attention of Eleven Seven Music Group and Better Noise Records who signed her in 2015. Amassing a bevy of ideas, she hit the studio with super producer Howard Benson `{`My Chemical Romance, Chris Cornell, Halestorm, Kelly Clarkson`}` to record what would become her full-length debut, Coming In Hot. “Diamante is the only true heir to the female rock throne that has been vacant since Joan Jett’s heyday,” says Howard Benson.
“Howard really pushed me to be vulnerable and talk about things I was afraid to talk about,” she goes on. “I finally got the courage to be honest with my lyrics and myself. I want to be someone girls and guys growing up can relate to.”
Her single “Coming In Hot”—out June 16, 2017—seesaws between an arena-filling chant and a robust and raucous riff. At the center, she confidently serves up the knockout refrain, “Whether you’re ready or not, I’m coming in hot!”
“It’s essentially a super fun weekend summer anthem,” she smiles. “I picture people leaving their day jobs in the car on a Friday, cranking this, and getting ready to go nuts on the weekend. It’s also a metaphor for me coming in hot into the industry. I want to bring this style back and take over rock.”
In the end, rock ‘n’ roll has never sounded, looked, or felt like Diamante on Coming In Hot.
She leaves off, “When people hear this, I’d like for them to think, ‘Oh my God, rock is not dead. This girl is bringing it back’—whether they’re ready or not…”

Joe Wood on How to be a Pop Artist and still be Authentic

"Rush" releasing on August 18, 2017. Two days later, you can also hear it on episode 9 of this season of "Power" on Starz! Rush is licensed through Lyric House in LA.
“My songs process my feelings of nostalgia, and the passion and desire I have buried deep inside to take risks and break free from the comfort of the past,” confides indie-pop songwriter Joe Wood.

Joe shrouds his lyrics in a wash of dreamy synthscapes, jagged guitars, rugged hip-hop beats, and sharp pop hooks. His words capture the mania, anxiety, and alienation of being a 20-something artist in New York City. His addictive pop sensibility is like an opiate, tranquilizing the jittery effects of heartbreak and disappointment.

The Brooklyn-based indie artist makes his debut with the woozy indie-pop gem, “Rush,” which has recently been featured on season four (episode nine) of Starz’s critically acclaimed crime drama television series Power. He will follow up this auspices debut with a series of singles.

Joe counts The Neighborhood, Majid Jordan, Blackhear, HERO, and Verite as influences. He writes, produces, tracks, and performs his cinematic electro-pop pop in his apartment studio in Brooklyn. He brings a homespun DIY approach to his tracks nurtured from his early trial and error experiments splicing together hip-hop samples when he was in middle school and high school. Therefore, Joe favors a limited toolkit of affordable gear, stock synth sounds, drum samples, and a guitar to build his richly layered pop compositions.

It would seem Joe was destined to be a musician. He was born with perfect pitch, taught himself piano and guitar, and came out of the gate a gifted songwriter with a knack for irresistible hooks. His talent was truly innate, as Joe was not born into a musical family. In fact, Joe’s father, his father’s side of the family, and Joe’s sister, are hearing impaired.

Coming of age, Joe spent many years lost, channeling his creativity into frustrating and ill-fitting directions. Eventually, he moved to New York City from his quaint Long Island hometown to become an actor. That’s when things all changed. “When I moved here, I started to write music from the heart as a way to deal with my fears of not being successful, and my fears of being alone and lost in this huge city,” he shares.

On a whim, Joe uploaded a demo of his first single, “Rush,” online, and it became included on a licensing company’s randomized playlist. One day, while at his thankless catering job, Joe got an email that the song was chosen to be placed on Power. It was a galvanizing moment. The opportunity afforded Joe a springboard to launch his career, and it gave him the validation he needed to press ahead. “It was time to take a risk and do it in a big way—no more excuses,” he says recalling that transformative moment.

Now, Joe will be releasing a program of hip-hop tinged electro-pop singles, the first being,” Rush.” Here, Joe sneaks sincerity and sentimentality in an alluring dream-pop track. “That song is about wanting to feel something genuine after going through waves of frustration and heartbreak,” he details.

Unlike many bedroom visionaries, Joe is an unabashed natural performer. “Sitting in front of the computer meticulously producing tracks is not exciting for me,” he says with a good-natured laugh. “My favorite place to be is onstage. There, there is no filter and there is no insecurity—onstage is where I show people who I really am.”

Bio:

The J.O.B. is an independent band based in Richmond, Virginia. It was formed by Jim O'Ferrell (acoustic guitar & vocals) and Jason Crawford (electric guitar) when O'Ferrell returned from the War in Iraq in 2008. Originally intended as a vehicle to record the powerful songs Jim had written between wartime missions, the band has evolved into a hard-hitting alternative rock band with a music portfolio that includes 5 albums, 3 nationally charted Top 40 songs, and scores of live performances ranging from saloons to festivals. The band has a diverse modern Rock creative sensibility with a Blues pulse and Americana roots. Rounding out this four-piece band is Jared Merrill with his bass guitar and Eric Bandy on the drummer's throne.

From the five albums released from 2009 through 2015, three singles enjoyed lengthy status on FMQB radio spin charts in the United States: MESSENGER in 2012, FEEL from 2012 into 2013, and RED EYE in 2015.

In addition to live performances for their growing worldwide fan base, the band has appeared on multiple live television broadcasts and live in-studio radio music shows. The J.O.B. was also featured in the Virginia Lottery's "Truckin' For Cash" television commercial which had a 6 month run on network & cable TV.
