Nancy Wilson: Rock Goddess Reinvents Herself and Rock and Roll For A New Generation

Nancy Wilson is celebrated as one of the seminal musicians in the history of Rock n' Roll. A guitar virtuoso from the age of 10, Nancy, and her sister Ann, led the multi-platinum rock group, Heart. Together they have gone on to sell 35 million records. Nancy is revered as an ingenious guitar player and a gifted vocalist. As a songwriter, Nancy has co-written a collection of indelible songs that have earned their way into the classic rock canon including, "Magic Man," "Crazy on You," "Barracuda," and "Straight On."

During an era when females in rock n' roll were scarce, Nancy helped carve out a place for women to front a band and dominate a rock stage. Her icon status was cemented when Heart was inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. That same year, she and her sister received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2013, the Wilson sisters celebrated another career milestone when they performed Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" at the Kennedy Center Honors. Their note-perfect performance was met with rowdy cheers and a standing ovation in the staid hall and brought members of Led Zeppelin to tears.

Nancy has also built a successful career as a film composer. Her composing credits include scores for the following films:

-2005 Elizabethtown
-2001 Vanilla Sky
-2000 Almost Famous
-1995 Jerry Maguire (main theme)
-1989 Say Anything...

Nancy’s film nominations include:

-2006: Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards (Critics Choice Award – Best Composer) for Elizabethtown

-2002: Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA (Saturn Award – Best Music) for Vanilla Sky

-2001: Phoenix Film Critics Society Awards (PFCS Award – Best Original Score) for Almost Famous

-2001: BAFTA (Anthony Asquith Award for Film Music) for Almost Famous

-2000: Las Vegas Film Critics Society Awards (Sierra Award – Best Score) for Almost Famous

As a longtime film buff, Nancy has an encyclopedic knowledge of film. She has years of experience working as part of filmmaking teams, helping to craft scenes that support the emotional tone of the film and advance the story. An instinctive musician, she applies her touch to enhance an intimate, human moment or to bring excitement to a party scene.

Nancy's onstage experience in Heart has taught her how to create connections with her audience in a concert. She brings this skill to her composing work, where she delivers unforgettable melodic themes, aimed at deepening her relationship with a viewing audience.

Nancy is currently branching out into co-creating and scoring new television series alongside her regular touring schedule with Heart.

Celebrating The Women Of Horror: Who Are The Greatest Scream Queens of All Time?

The Loudini Hard Rock and Metal Circus celebrates it's FOURTH Halloween Spooktacular by celebrating the women of horror! Join Lou and Keith as they pose the question: "Just who are the greatest, sexiest, and hottest scream queens of all time?"  Featured Loudini Artists:    Cellar Darling    East Of Eden    Tax The Heat

Cellar Darling
Cellar Darling formed in the summer of 2016 out of the split of Switzerland’s most successful metal act to date, the chart-topping Eluveitie. The trio consisting of Anna Murphy (vocals, hurdy-gurdy), Merlin Sutter (drums) and Ivo Henzi (guitars & bass) therefore already looks back on a decade of touring the world, in 45+ countries on 6 continents. The winners of the 2014 Swiss Music Award as ‘best live act’ have experienced much together, forming a bond that can overcome any adversity.

After the split with their former band in June 2016, Anna, Ivo and Merlin quickly realised their musical journey was far from over and instantly began working on their own songs. What quickly developed was a unique and fresh combination of grand and heavy riffs, powerful drumming and a unique voice, with the signature folky, earthy tones of the hurdy gurdy, confidently fusing heavy alternative rock with strong fokly influences and poetic lyrical tales, creating what you may very well call a New Wave Of Folk Rock.

After a summer of intense songwriting sessions, Cellar Darling self-released their first single, 'Challenge' along with a bonus track ‘Fire, Wind & Earth’, in September 2016, to overwhelmingly positive reactions from around the world. Signing to Nuclear Blast Records in January 2017 was swiftly followed by 3 subsequent single releases, all met with a staggering support from the ever growing fanbase. Cellar Darling’s debut album ‘This Is The Sound’ was released on June 30th 2017.

Lyrically, Cellar Darling are storytellers. They want to carry you away into their world of music, awaking the spirit of the stories our parents told us before going to sleep, painting pictures with melodies, metaphors and poetry. Melodize the adventures of the human spirit, with all its mysteries and emotions.

The upcoming album promises to awaken your imagination and stretch your musical tastes.

The Fine Art of Combining Catchy Melodies to Create a Rich Tapestry with Beto Hale

Orbs of light is a collection of 10 original songs, all written, performed, and co-produced by Beto Hale. It was recorded at Los Olivos Recording Studios, Beto's new, 2000-sq. ft., state of the art facility in LA.

The songs range in influence from progressive-rock, to Beatles, Bob Dylan, 80's Pop and Post Punk.
The lyrics have a positive message meant to counter the current negative atmosphere pervading the news.

On 90% of the album, Beto played drums, percussion, bass, electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, keyboards, piano, and sang lead and backing vocals.

The album is being submitted for Grammy consideration for Best Alternative Album, bezt Rock Performance ("The Only One"), and best Rock Song ("Far Away").
[Those singles can be focused on for pitching].

Beto Hale was born in Mexico City. He started playing “drums” (meaning whatever was within his reach and he could hit with whatever he could grab,) around the time he could talk. He got his first drum set when he was eight. He taught himself to play listening to Beatles albums he found in the shelves of his home. When he was around 11, he joined a local band, which played a few cool gigs, including at the U.S. Ambassador's residence. He also dabbled in guitar, an instrument he later became quite good at.

During his middle and high school years at E.S.P.C.M. (now Colegio Ciudad de México), Beto played with a band who called themselves El Gru-Po (you figure it out), and several other outfits.

Upon graduation, Beto was recruited by Jorge Ceja to tour as a keyboardist, obviously with the enormously popular teen-pop singing group Timbiriche. Beto was to replace Aureo Baqueiro, now a famous producer of Latin Pop albums, who was on his way to Berklee College of Music.
A product of the geniuses at Televisa, Timbiriche was one more incredibly successful product manufactured by a company where stars are streamlined with more precision than bagels at a bakery in Brooklyn.
Beto toured all over Mexico with the group, and after a short but intense stint, he decided to get serious about music, and enrolled at the small, exclusive, and prestigious C.IE.M. music school in San Jerónimo, one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Mexico City. There, under the direction of María Antonieta Lozano, he studied composition, harmony, ear training, piano, guitar, drums, voice, history of western music, and many other subjects, including, “How to Survive as an Avant-garde Composer and Burger Flipper, 101”. After three and a half years of intense study (and having gone through the heartbreaking loss of his dear father to Lou Gherig's disease), Beto felt ready to, at last, fulfill one of his lifelong dreams: attending Berklee as well, in Boston, MA, a place, physically, culturally and weather-ly (is that a word?) that could not be further from Mexico City.
So, he sent in his application and recorded a demo using the latest technology (yes, a Tascam Porta-One MINISTUDIO, of course!!) and sent it to Berklee, in the hopes of getting a scholarship, Which he did.
On precisely August 26th, 1992, Beto left his adored country of birth and arrived, full of hopes and illusions, to Boston, MA. After a nice and long Autumn season that lasted exactly four and a half days, Beto found himself freezing his nuts off, and quickly learned how to protect himself from the cold: stay the fuck inside, at all times! This proved to be a great tool for doing what you must at Berklee: practice, practice, practice, practice -eat, sleep- practice, practice, practice, and, yes, practice!
At Berklee, overwhelmed by the choices available, Beto decided to double-major in Songwriting and Performance (drum set). The performance and recording opportunities at Berklee were incredible. Beto got to share the stage with some of today's most outstanding musicians, many of which are close friends to this day; among them, Antonio Sánchez (drummer for Pat Metheny, and the Grammy winning composer for the film Birdman), Cheche Alara (currently on tour with Barbra Streisand), and Alex Mercado (outstanding Mexican jazz pianist), to name just a handful.
The experience opened Beto's mind, ears and heart, and he will always remember the Berklee years as some of the best of his life. But, when he graduated, he could not wait to get out of “Beantown”. So, after four years of endless nights (literally: the sun goes down at 3 PM), mountains of snow, and angry and drunken Red Sox fans, the next logical step was to move to the relaxed, low-key, stress-free, friendly, warm and sunny, creative haven of New York City!
While looking for opportunities at the Berklee Career Center, Beto found an internship at a small recording studio in the heart of Manhattan: KMA (you figure it out). Michael Case Kissel (R.I.P.) received Beto with open arms and while there, Beto recorded a whole host of interesting people, including Laura Branigan (of “Gloria” fame) and many others. Through KMA, he met members of the band “The Cogs” a pop/punk band he soon joined. He played innumerable gigs with the band in the Tri-State area, and also recorded a full length album, Viva! with them at the famed Avatar Studios.
As exciting and inviting as it was, New York City proved to be a great place to starve too –what with 10 dollar an hour jobs and $1.50-a-pop subway rides– so, after receiving a call to join the editorial offices of Músico Pro magazine in Boulder, Colorado, Beto accepted to interview for the job and was hired, moving to Colorado to start all over again.
At Músico Pro, Beto quickly moved up the corporate ladder, becoming Editor-in-Chief, a position he held for six years. During his tenure, he interviewed some of his musical heroes, such as Stewart Copeland, Andy Summers, and the Holy Trinity...Not THAT one, THIS one!
Some other artists Beto interviewed include Alejandro Sanz, Poncho Sánchez, Chick Corea, Pat Martino, El Tri, Julieta Venegas, Café Tacuba, and Tony Levin.
Beto also got to review tons of gear, from microphones, guitars and drum sets, to plug-ins, synths and sound modules. Sometimes the editorial staff got a little behind in reviewing the enormous amount of gear they received.
Thanks to his reputation as a bilingual music instrument and technology “expert”, companies in the industry started hiring Beto to translate users manuals, websites and promotional material from English to Spanish, which led to the founding of Let's Mexam Music, Inc. in 1999. The company's client roster includes Peavey, Korg, Latin Percussion and PreSonus, to name just a few.
During his nine years in Colorado, Beto played with several bands, from “jam” style outfits, to wedding bands to experimental rock groups. He also recorded his first two full-length solo albums, Sube and American Mythology. Both bilingual CDs received rave reviews from English and Spanish language publications. Beto played numerous gigs promoting these albums, both in Mexico and the US.
During his last year at Músico Pro, Beto enrolled in the prestigious Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver to pursue a Masters in Music, which he obtained in 2006. At DU, Beto composed music for full symphony orchestra, big band and small jazz ensembles.
In 2007, Beto moved to Los Angeles, the city he still calls home. There, he has collaborated with some outstanding musicians and producers, including Pablo Suñé, Pablo Munguía, Alexis Sklarevski, and others. He has also studied with a who's who of LA teachers, such as vocalist Rosemary Butler, drummer Denny Seiwell, and composer /arranger/bandleader Brent Fischer.
In 2012, Beto released Rebirth, a 10-song collection which features Tony Levin playing bass on all songs. The album includes “Fire Away” and “Come As You Are”, two singles that hovered in the top 40 for several weeks in college and commercial stations across the US. It was co-produced by Beto and CJ Boggs, a longtime collaborator and friend from the Colorado days. The album also features Marc Mann on guitar.
Beto promoted the album performing several gigs in Mexico City with his band: David García on bass, and Felipe Souza Sr. and Jr. on guitars. Another incarnation featured Marcelo Berestovoy on guitar. The video section of this website contains several clips of those shows.
In 2016 Beto completed the construction of a gorgeous state-of-the-art facility, Los Olivos Recording Studios. The facility, designed and built by Kaufman and Associates, is a dream come true. This is where Beto will record all his new music, collaborating with LA's -and the world's- top songwriting, performing, and producing talent. The studio will also cater to an exclusive clientele in the music, film, TV and Web-streaming industries.

The Best Drum Intros of ALL TIME!

This week on The Loudini Hard Rock and Metal Circus Lou and Keith show their love for the people who sit on the riser behind the band and drive it hard. In the history of rock there are some iconic drum intros that perfectly set up the feel and groove for the rest of the song. What are the top 10 Drum intros of all time?  Featured Loudini Artists:    PRYM  Veil of Maya   Sons of Apollo

PRYM
PRYM debuted their first single “Lights” on March 24, setting the scene for the band's first EP and nationwide tour for Summer 2017. The latest from former solo artist Corrin Campbell, the group takes the artist’s previous rock background and melds captivating synths with crunchy guitars and powerful vocals.
Corrin Campbell, formerly an artist sponsored by the U.S. Army, has been featured at a range of events, from Lilith Fair 2010 to Vans Warped Tour 2014 and 2015. Her work with the Army expanded to rock group Dash|Ten for Warped Tour 2016 and the group has toured across the United States. “My time with the Army was incredible, but came with some limitations,” says Campbell. “Since my time with the Army just came to close, I wanted a chance to make some relevant and catchy rock music - no holds barred.”

The group is set to release a three-song EP entitled “At First Light" in August ahead of a full-length album in early 2018. “We really want to give the fans a chance to hear what the new project sounds like before heading out on the road and showing them the whole album, and I think they’re going to love it!”

Veil of Maya
The Chicago based VEIL OF MAYA have definitely taken the hard road to success grinding it out on the road through countless tours over the years, but now that backbreaking schedule is paying off tenfold. This quartet are one of the few very bands that can authentically mix elements of progressive metal, melodic death metal, thrash and hardcore brutality together effectively, all while keeping the listener constantly interested with baited breath wondering just what is coming next. This is exactly why they will have a career for years to come.

With their third full-length album, Eclipse, they continued to blend Meshuggah-esque riffs, shreddy solos and haunting melodies into a compelling package that garnered high acclaim from fans and media alike. With his overflowing riff bank in hand, the group have continued to churn out new material that has ultimately resulted in the new tracks that will be featured on a much anticipated new full length album (release TBA 2014) . The results are even more jagged and heterogenous with dizzying guitar savagery, jazz chords and fragmented leads congealing in a swarm of blast beats.
VEIL OF MAYA are firing on all cylinders and remain one of the top artists within the genre never adhering to any preconceived ideals further pushing the envelope with each new track they create.

Sons of Apollo
APOLLO: The ancient Greek and Roman God of music and poetry.
SONS OF APOLLO: The new supergroup featuring members of Dream Theater, Mr. Big, Guns ‘N Roses, and Journey.

For the past few months, rumors have been circulating about a new secret project including former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian. Now, the time has come to make the grand and highly anticipated introduction to their new band, SONS OF APOLLO.

Reuniting to form SONS OF APOLLO, Portnoy and Sherinian have joined forces with Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses), Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force). Their debut album, PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY, will be released October 20 on InsideOutMusic/Sony Music.

PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY was produced by the dynamic production duo of Portnoy and Sherinian, also affectionately known as “The Del Fuvio Brothers,” which is the nickname given to them over 20 years ago during their time together in Dream Theater.

SONS OF APOLLO got together very organically, as Portnoy explains: “Derek and I reunited shortly after I left Dream Theater in 2010 and we put together an all-instrumental touring band with he and I, Billy Sheehan, and Tony MacAlpine. That was my first time working with Derek since the ‘90s when he was in Dream Theater and it was just great to be working with him again. Ever since that tour, which was really just a one-off live thing, he has been nudging me to start a real, original, full-time band. The timing just had never been right, because I had too many other things on my plate. Long story short, the time was finally right to take the bait and put together a band.”

“Mike and I work at a relentless pace in the studio,” continues Sherinian. “The music is modern, but we have an old school soul. What is unique about SONS OF APOLLO is that we have true rock n’ roll swagger along with the virtuosity– a lethal combination!”

But what to call the next great supergroup? “Derek was mainly the one behind the name,” says Portnoy. “I have a list that I keep on my phone of about a hundred different band names, which I constantly have to refer to every time I have a new band every year (laughs). So, I pulled up the list and Apollo was one of the names on the list. It was a word that both of us really liked. We started fiddling with different variations of the word. One of the original band names we were working with was Apollo Creed, the character from the ‘Rocky’ movies, but after lots of different discussions on different variations, Derek suggested SONS OF APOLLO and it seemed to stick. Apollo is the God of Music so with that in mind it seemed like a fitting name.”

Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian and Billy Sheehan previously toured together in 2012 and 2013 as PSMS (along with guitarist Tony MacAlpine), playing all instrumental versions from each of their previously recorded music. SONS OF APOLLO is the next logical progression by adding a vocalist and creating all-original material. The band incorporates the progressive style and individual technical prowess that Portnoy & Sherinian shared together in Dream Theater combined with the swagger and groove of Van Halen, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.

“I have known Mike and Derek for a long time, so when they came to me with Sons of Apollo, I jumped on this straight away,” says Thomas Waber, Label Manager/A&R International of InsideOutMusic. “However, the album they ended up recording exceeded my already high expectations by a long mile! We couldn’t be happier about it!”

SONS OF APOLLO will hit the road in 2018 for their first worldwide tour.

“This is a real band,” Portnoy declares. “This is going to pick up for me and Billy where The Winery Dogs left off, in terms of this being the next logical full-time thing for us. I’m not saying The Winery Dogs have broken up, because we haven’t, we’re just on a break. SONS OF APOLLO is absolutely going to be a full-time band and we plan on touring all over the world all throughout 2018 and, honestly, it is the priority for all five of us.”

Sherinian agrees, “We will go on a worldwide crusade in 2018 to bring SONS OF APOLLO to as many people as possible. Apollo was the God of Music, and we are his mighty offspring!”

Henry Chadwick on working with Beck producer Robert Schnapf

Henry Chadwick is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Amigos Amigos On Using Friendship To Create Music Business Success

FROM THE ARID DESERTS OF THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST...A LEGEND WAS BORN. A GROUP OF DRIFTERS, TRYING TO FIND THEIR WAY BACK HOME TO THE GREAT (AND GREASY) STATE OF NEW JERSEY, STRUGGLED TO NAVIGATE THE SEEMINGLY BARREN WASTELAND. THE GROUP CONSISTED OF A STRONGMAN, A DOCTOR, TWO SCHOLARS, A YOGI, AND A PAINFULLY AVERAGE WHITE MALE...ALL EQUALLY OPPRESSED BY THE CLIMATE.

AFTER DAYS OF WANDERING, FINDING SUSTENANCE ONLY FROM CACTUS JUICE AND THE CONSUMPTION OF SMALL DESERT REPTILES, THE GROUP DISCOVERED A GIANT TEMPLE, WORN DOWN BY THE WHIPPING SANDS OF TIME. DESPERATELY SEEKING REFUGE, THEY ENTERED THE TEMPLE AND WERE MET WITH AN EERIE SENSE OF CALM. THE GIANT STRUCTURE WAS VOID OF ANY OTHER PRESENCE...OR SO THEY THOUGHT. THE WALLS WERE DECORATED WITH ANCIENT, FACIAL SHAPES OF A CIVILIZATION LONG PASSED. THE TROUPE CONTINUED TO EXPLORE, AS THEY DISAPPEARED DEEP INTO THE CONFINES OF THE TEMPLE.

A FAINT MELODY WAS PICKED UP BY THE KEEN EARS OF THE STRONGMAN. THE WEARY TRAVELERS FOLLOWED THE SOUND UNTIL THAT ARRIVED AT THE SOURCE; A ROOM WITH A CLOSED DOOR, THE SOUND OF THE MELODY CREEPING THROUGH THE CRACKS OF THE DOOR. ON THE SURFACE OF THE DOOR, ANOTHER INTERESTING SHAPE WAS DISPLAYED. A CACTUS DONNING A MUSTACHE, WEARING A SOMBRERO. STRANGE. THEY ENTERED THE ROOM TO FIND A LITTLE MUSIC BOX PLAYING ON THE FLOOR. THEY LISTENED INTENTLY, AS THE MELODY WAS BIZARRE AND UNLIKE ANYTHING ANY OF THEM COULD RECALL HEARING BEFORE. AT THE END OF THE TUNE, THE MUSIC BOX SIMPLY RESET ITSELF AND BEGAN TO PLAY THE MELODY AGAIN, AS THE MUSIC BOX OPENED AND BLINDED THE GROUP WITH A BRILLIANT, WHITE LIGHT.

THE GROUP AWAKENED, BACK IN NEW JERSEY, WITH NO RECOLLECTION OF HOW THEY TRAVELED HOME. THEY COULD ALSO INEXPLICABLY PLAY MUSIC AS A BAND. THEIR SOUND WAS A BLEND OF DYNAMIC ROCK MUSIC WITH POWERFUL BRASS MELODIES. THEY CALLED IT "POWER MARIACHI." THIS NEWLY ACQUIRED GIFT ALLOWED THE NEWLY FORMED BAND TO DEVELOP A DEEP FRIENDSHIP THROUGH THE ART OF MUSIC. TO PAY HOMAGE TO THEIR EXPERIENCE IN THE DESERT, THE BAND CHOSE THE NAME "AMIGOS, AMIGOS!" IN AN EFFORT TO INSPIRE OTHERS TO BOND WITH EACH OTHER BY MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER.

.....OR THEY ARE JUST A PROG-ROCK BAND FROM NORTH JERSEY WHO LOVE PLAYING MUSIC TOGETHER AND HAVING FUN. WHATEVER PUTS SOUR CREAM ON YOUR TACO!
