"Highly perched on our list of most anticipated albums of 2015 is 'Hearts Bleed Goodbye' by Brooklyn band Typhoid Rosie...The album is a testament of love, a chronology of loss, and rather than teetering on overly maudlin sentimental drivel, tackles the grieving process with sonic wonderment and catchy melodies. The album's first two singles 'Better to Know Now' and 'Hearts Bleed Goodbye' are getting global praise for their raw emotion, not to mention their unrelenting catchiness...Typhoid Rosie have perfected making sad songs with pop hooks and indie grit"- Thirty Roses

"A beautiful expression of emotion that relies on Rebel's bleeding lyricism for the heavy hitting effect... a vulnerable and heartfelt track"--Baeble Music.

"Typhoid Rosie, rising like a phoenix straight outta Brooklyn, recalls a feistier rock & roll yesteryear when the likes of Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro and Kim Carnes ruled the charts instead of the typical sex kitten dinner theater we’ve been deluged with ever since a bored Britney Spears emerged from the classroom...If you’re into Blondie, Garbage or 90’s BritPop acts like Republica, Elastica or Echobelly, Typhoid Rosie should hit your sweet spot. Definitely a band to keep an eye on."- Popdose

"Typhoid Rosie is one of those kick ass bands you are not surprised come from Brooklyn...This band has so much great energy, and they have this huge sound; but over the huge sound comes the kick ass voice of Rosie Rebel herself. She reminds me of Joan Jett or Suzie Quatro, back when a woman with balls was not the norm. I love this band. "-- Audio Fuzz

"The listener is instantly hit hard with their intense and steady drums. The track goes on to showcase the band's signature sound. The song is only surpassed by its enjoyable lyrical imagery and symbolism"-- Eat Sleep Breathe Music

"'Better to Know Now' is the first single off the fall release 'Hearts Bleed Goodbye'. A song about addiction and the bad company we keep while buried in the bottom of a bottle or a needle...Rebel's lyrics are thought provoking and the music is catchy. It's reminiscent of what an 80's rock/punk band would create if they wanted a 50's vibe. Rebel is a cross between Blondie and Pat Benetar with a dash of activist"--WordKrapht.

Typhoid Rosie is a Brooklyn-based Indie Pop/Rock band with a lot of guts. Their unique style and moving music, push them beyond the confines of the Pop genre into a league of their own. As an avid music listener and friend-defined human jukebox, I can honestly say that this band’s music doesn’t remind me of anyone…and I love that--Livewells Latest

"A compelling female fronted quartet of extremely gifted musicians"-- Audio Fuzz

Loudini Interviews Dead 27s

On their debut EP, Dead 27s brilliantly infused rock-and-roll and classic soul with both raw energy and refined musicality. Now with their first full-length effort Ghosts Are Calling Out, the Charleston-based band expands their sound by pursuing their passion for loose and joyful experimentation. Working with a treasure trove of obscure and vintage lo-fi gear, Dead 27s have widened their sonic repertoire to offer up an album that’s boldly inventive but rooted in pure emotion.

The follow-up to 2014’s Chase Your Devils Down—an EP praised by the likes of No Depression, who remarked that “you can feel their music in your bones”—Ghosts Are Calling Out builds off its predecessor’s earthy sensibility and gritty spirit. But while Dead 27s maintain their soulful melodicism and knack for heavy grooves, the new album finds the band crafting gorgeously warped textures that take their music in a thrilling new direction. “Making this album, we wanted to push ourselves and bring much more attention to detail to the production—and at the same time have some fun with all these weird, distorted sounds and tones that we were coming up with,” notes Mullinax.

That creative abandon is palpable throughout Ghosts Are Calling Out, which was produced by Ben Ellman (a member of the funk/rock act Galactic) and mixed by Mikael “Count” Eldridge (a producer/engineer whose past work includes releases by Radiohead, the Rolling Stones, and a Grammy Award-winning effort from Mavis Staples). To record the album, Dead 27s headed to New Orleans and set up shop in The Living Room (a studio housed in a 1930s church by the Mississippi River). While in New Orleans, Dead 27s took advantage of their surroundings by pairing up with local musicians like Pretty Lights touring keyboardist Brian Coogan (who performed on several tracks on Ghosts Are Calling Out). The band also had a major breakthrough when Ellman sent them to the home of Ani DiFranco and her producer/husband Mike Napolitano to borrow a stockpile of gear that would play a major role in shaping the album’s sound. “All of a sudden we had all these new toys and a way bigger palette to paint with,” recalls Francis. Among those toys: a pocket amp, a miniature synthesizer, and an Omnichord (an electric harp-like device that generates what Evans calls “these very ’80s-Nintendo-sounding chords”).

Despite the playfulness of its production, Ghosts Are Calling Out attains an emotional depth first glimpsed on Chase Your Devils Down. “The title for the new record comes from a line in ‘Only One’: ‘Down on Desperation Lane/Ghosts are calling out my name,’” explains Mullinax, referring to the album’s closing track. “It’s about the ghosts of your past experiences, the things that haunt you throughout your life—not necessarily in a bad way, but in the sense that certain experiences just stay a part of you forever.”

In capturing experiences both bad and good, painful and euphoric, Ghosts Are Calling Out endlessly shifts moods and embodies a broad spectrum of feeling—a feat achieved with great help from Francis’s stunning vocal command. Kicking off with the one-two punch of “What a Waste” (a harmony-laced number featuring some fantastically skewed guitar work) and “Queen” (a feel-good track shot through with hip-shaking rhythms), the album then drifts into melancholy on songs like the beautifully bittersweet “Already Dead” and the deceptively breezy “Grey Skies.” “That song’s about someone who’s brokenhearted after the girl he loves leaves him,” explains Francis of the latter. “It’s about feeling like you can’t enjoy yourself at all anymore, and it’s meant to give you the feeling that you’re almost getting past that and moving on to something better.”

Elsewhere on Ghosts Are Calling Out, Dead 27s explore darker territory with “Scarecrow,” a song that threads its sinister guitar riff through lyrics about “watching someone get caught up with a very powerful and negative person,” according to Mullinax. With its sleepy melody, spacey tones, and smoldering guitar work, “Fantastic” slips into dreamy psychedelia but delivers a message that Mullinax describes as “wanting change instead of just accepting things that aren’t exactly right.” On the hymnlike “Emanuel,” the band quietly reflects on the 2015 shooting at their hometown’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. “I was away when that happened, and when I got back I went straight to the church,” says Mullinax. “When I got home that night, the song came together so easily, although now it’s very difficult to play.” And on “Only One,” Dead 27s shake off everyday frustrations and lay down an all-out anthem whose groove gives a nod to the then-recently-departed New Orleans R&B legend Allen Toussaint.

The intense vitality that powers each track on Ghosts Are Calling Out has much to do with Dead 27s’ undeniable chemistry, a force they discovered the very first time they played together. Initially teaming up for a one-time gig at a local festival in spring 2012, Francis, Mullinax, Evans, and Goldstein quickly decided to collaborate on a new project, and soon brought Crider into the fold. Seeking a name, the band began to brainstorm ideas based on their longtime inspirations—Kurt Cobain, Robert Johnson, Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix—and then came to the realization that each musician belonged to the so-called 27 Club. In that moment, Dead 27s was born.

After releasing Chase Your Devils Down in spring 2014, Dead 27s earned the Charleston City Paper Music Awards’ Song of the Year prize two years in a row, ranked in the top 24 of VH1’s “Make a Band Famous” competition, and opened for such artists as Earphunk, Galactic, The Revivalists, Marcus King Band, and Tab Benoit. Fast gaining a reputation as an incendiary live act, the band devoted much of 2015 to touring as well as writing and pre-producing material for Ghosts Are Calling Out.

With each show serving as a breeding ground for creativity, Dead 27s mine much inspiration from their time on the road. Along with setting up makeshift recording stations in their hotel rooms, the band continually sources song ideas on the fly: the new album’s “Rainbow,” for instance, was sparked by a strange piece of graffiti carved into the wall of a bar bathroom in Chattanooga. Through that near-constant writing and performing, Dead 27s have vastly strengthened their creative connection and pushed the boundaries of their musicianship. “We’ve always worked in a way where everyone adds their own flavors to the songs, but this album was much more of a collaborative effort,” says Evans. “Each one of us more was a lot more heavily engaged in the whole process, and we ended up trying new stuff that we’re all really excited about and that goes way beyond just having some good new songs to put out.”

The heavy hitting “Turn It Up!” has Gomes rightly boasting “…got Mississippi lightning in my soul, I was raised on the thunder of rock ‘n’ roll…gonna play the music till the day I die, just like B.B. King and Buddy Guy,” his voice and guitar roaring. “Back Door Scratchin’” uses clever tom cat imagery “You found someone new, don’t want me no more. You put me out, baby, can’t get past your door… I’m back door scratchin’, howlin’ all night. I’m back door scratchin’ till the morning light.” The mighty chugging “Whiskey Train” has Gomes growling “It’s gonna take a whole lot of whiskey to drink away the pain. I gotta get half-way down the label, or go insane,” his guitar smoking like a 20-ton locomotive.

Loudini Interviews Flying Joes

Based in Montréal, Canada, Flying Joes evoke the raw power of pure 70’s rock, inspired by an authentic blues sensibility. Formed in January 2014, the trio of Syd Bedard (bass, vocals), JF Arsenault (guitar) and Thomas Brodeur (drums) has a contagious energy both live and on record. Bolstered by their modern rock sound, their festive roadtrip songs call to mind classic bands like Led Zeppelin and Cream.

In September 2015 Flying Joes will release their debut album “Let it out”, recorded with Award winning producer Glen Robinson (U2, AC/DC, BB King) and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, The Black Crowes, Soundgarden). Only a year and a half after their debut, the band has played close to 200 live shows. “Let It Out” was on the Top 25 Rock Albums of ITunes only a week after it’s release.

In August 2014, Flying Joes was the winner of the Nuits Blues Laurentides contest in the songwriter category with the song “I’ve Gone Missing”. The trio’s impressive wealth of experience shows in JF’s elegant guitar work, Syd’s powerful, soaring vocals, Thomas’ muscular, rock-solid drumming and well-crafted songs worthy of the greatest classic rock masterpieces.

Since March 2015, Flying Joes has been the house band of the prestigious Humour Aveugle gala, held at Montréal’s iconic Théâtre St-Denis, alongside well-known Quebec performers such as Louis-José Houde, Peter Mcleod, André Philippe Gagnon and Mike Ward. Also founding members of the French-language progressive rock band Jelly Fiche, Syd and Jay produced and directed two albums distributed and broadcast globally on rock radio stations. They have accumulated extensive stage experience over the years with their past projects, performed on stage with Steve Hill (Let’s Rock Musical), Hugo Lapointe, Sylvain Cossette, and toured in Canada, Europe, United-States and Asia.

Loudini Interviews Soft Underground

The Soft Underground was formed in New York City by drummer, Andrew McCarty and guitarist, Charlie Hickey, after they met at music school. The two bonded over their enthusiasm of bands like The Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine. After many gigs playing under different incarnations of the band, the duo eventually recruited vocalist, Brannon Barnett, before beginning work on their debut album, Lost in Translation.

Throughout 2014, the band split their time between New Jersey and Tennessee to record and mix the album, and released their debut single, "Limousine", in December. Doug McCausland of Alternative Nation wrote of the single, "the band definitely has a knack for writing rock songs with hooks, as evident in their track "Limousine", which I could see as a potential radio single."

On October 30, 2015, The Soft Underground released their debut record, Lost in Translation to positive critical review. Indie Blog Nation said, "every minor detail was perfected; great production and flow," while Dayz of Purple and Orange wrote that the band, "have provided enough variation in one album that would see other bands through a career."

Loudini interviews Fly Never Dies

Fly Never Dies is a genre-bending group whose music fuses hip-hop vocals, rock guitar, and pop flair to create a sound unique to today's trends. The group consists of Jay "Trew " Crockett, a Prince George, Virginia based artist, actor, model and songwriter, and Eric Haywood, an Atlanta, Georgia based producer and multi-instrumentalist. The Band Occasionally features Casey Shea Producer DC Soul Plus Mind and Dan Edinberg

The pair met in 2007 at a Richmond area concert and beat battle that Haywood was performing in. They soon began working on their first pair of collaborative albums under the guidance of legendary hip-hop producer Ski Beatz (Jay-z, Camp Lo). These sessions resulted in 2 albums (2008's "The Last Call EP" and 2009's "The Morning After"), and a small regional following, but ultimately led to a string of industry related mishaps and lessons learned.

Following a self-imposed hiatus, Haywood and Crockett regrouped and decided to change their musical direction. Trew toured the east coast with “Kid is Qual” and opening for groups such as Jacks Mannequin. Crockett also pursued acting and modeling. He was able to carve out a niche in both, finding modeling work with the Wilhelmina Models agency, and landing roles in commercials (Ferguson and Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield) and television shows for Investigation Discovery and DIY networks. Haywood took music composition classes after discovering a love for film and television scoring. Upon resuming his musical duties, Haywood was lucky enough to find work scoring short films, and soon after found a gig for the Atlanta based PaRock productions, landing him in the studio with artists such as Ray Lavendar and Bone Crusher.

After several sessions, a bond was established after extended trips to California. The Los Angeles palm trees and sunshine helped to create a sound and overall aura upon the project. The Love and The Stars Ep; a hodgepodge of pop, alternative, dance and hip-hop was created with the purpose of playing towards the strength of each artist. Songs such as "Love and the Stars" “and "Let It Go", demonstrate what musicians can accomplish when pushed to their creative boundaries. “Dance with You” “Miles” and “My T-Shirt” are feel good, melodic tracks describing the carefree evenings with Trew’s mentality of “always make a memory”.
